BC of the Day #6: Sunny Leone and a Tale of two…

Top stories of today:

Mamata sweeps urban Bengal, but loses Haldia (Yes, Mamtaji, Haldia is probably ‘Maoist’)

Congress won’t field candidate against Mulayam’s bahu (One Dynasty against the other, no, how could that be?)

US Strike kills Al Qaeda No. 2 (Yawn)

Diggy mocks Gadkari for touching Ramdev Baba’s feet (Oh Diggy ! Don’t forget your own stupid feats in the past !)

Google buys Meebo (And Quickoffice too, as if it wasn’t everywhere already!)

Djokovic makes stunning comeback to overcome Tsonga (And I couldn’t care less)

Well, so much has happened!

But I’ve missed out the most important news of all, and here’s the BC of the Day, specially dedicated to her !

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”

-Charles Dicken, A Tale of Two Cities

Why is this important ? Apart from this being a marketing strategy for Jism 2 (yes, I am a sincere marketing student), I want to see who buys the lingerie on sale. Buying lingerie of your favorite actress is one thing. Buying lingerie of a porn actress is another. India has largely been hypocritical when it comes to sex and related topics. It is the same India that revels in Pallu-ed ladies in TV soaps, the epitome of the ‘ideal’ bahu. It abhors public displays of affection like a simple peck on the cheeks. It takes pride in the sanskaars which have been passed on from generation to another.  But India seems to have accepted Sunny Leone into the mainstream. Is India slowly moving on from being a conservative society to a permissive one?

No, not really! The same India doesn’t allow ‘The Dirty Picture’ to be shown on TV. The same India created a furor over the ‘obscene’ paintings by M F Hussain. It is the same nation which created a big controversy about the sex scene in a TV soap (if a bit of smooching and fake orgasmic expressions on being kissed count as sex). So it seems as if we are selective in what is acceptable and what is not.

That is why any news about Sunny Leone is so important.
